Jockey Club Gold Cup, Saturday October 3rd

Hard to believe the day is already here, but it is the last week for those of us playing the Summer Spectacular 2015 Pick 6 Challenge.  Bill leads with 34 picks, Jeff is next with 33, and fatfilet is third with 32.  In fact each team has one fewer win than the one above it.  The Shackleford entry has racked up 4 Mr. Moneybags trophies this segment, awarded to the team winning the most money each week.  Charles River Stables has 2.  There have been zero winners of the pick 6 trophy for all 6 correct winners in a week, and thankfully nobody got skunked either.

There are a lot of great races going on this weekend, and honestly, if I hadn’t said I would finish the segment with the Jockey Club Gold Cup, I might have left it off the challenge this week.  So many good races out there.  I went with a variety of races, turf, 2 year olds, it’s all there.  Three from Belmont, three from Keeneland.  Let’s get to it!

Race 1: The Flower Bowl Stakes

  1. Stephanie’s Kitten – fast experienced turf racer, Chad Brown’s running well, two wins over Belmont track, 5 1-3-0 at distance, Ortiz Jr.
  2. Watsdachances – again, a fast horse from Chad Brown, 3 2-1-0 this year, a win at Belmont, a win at distance
  3. Curvy – watch out for those Europeans on turf, 6 4-0-1 this year, 3 for 3 at distance, you know a European will be there in the end
  4. Just Missed – Rosalind, not sure if this could be taken off the turf with all the rain recently, and hurricane coming up the coast

Race 2: The Woodford Stakes

  1. Mongolian Saturday – fast speed, working bullets, hasn’t finished off the board in 9 races, 8 3-2-1 at distance, coming off second by a nose, and a win in last 2 races.
  2. Shore Runner – fast speed, winner of last 4, 6 5-0-0 this year, 4 3-0-0 at distance, jockey Carmouche winner of last 3
  3. Undrafted – has raced these horses before, hit the board in all 4 starts this year, has gone the distance (but hasn’t won)
  4. Just Missed – Something Extra, Holy Lute, Hgoy, Havelock (might bet an “H” trifecta)

Race 3: First Lady Stakes

  1. Tepin – sports a 5 3-2-0 record this year, both second place finishes by a nose, looking at ta horse that basically has won 5 straight, fast, Leparoux turf specialist, 3 2-1-0 at distance
  2. Crowly – hard to ignore that 102 at distance last race out, watch out for the Europeans, gone the distance 10 times, hope Espinoza figures this horse out quick.
  3. My Miss Sophia – races fast, hope she likes the shorter distance, graded stakes performer with some OK workouts
  4. Just Missed – She’s Not Here, winner of last 2 with Mike Smith, 2 wins at distance

Race 4: Hill Prince Stakes

  1. Money Multiplier – great jockey trainer combo, 2 second place finishes at distance, good workouts
  2. World Approval – coming off a win at distance, Joel Rosario win%, 7 4-0-1 this year, 3 2-0-0 at distance, won 2 of last 3 races
  3. Courtier -fast, on the board in last 5 races, working bullets, won last race
  4. Just Missed – Jay Gatsby

Race 5: Jockey Club Gold Cup

  1. Tonalist – loves Belmont, great jockey, fast, working bullets, I’d be surprised if he lost
  2. Coach Inge – peak performance, on the board in last 9 races, has gone the distance, better than the rest at this time, good workouts too
  3. Effinex – doing great until Woodward, might not be able to match Tonalist and Inge, fast horse, can go the distance, won 3 of last 5, but 4th in last start
  4. For your exotics, Wicked Strong, Constitution? beat Tonalist in the Florida Derby…

Race 6: Shadwell Turf Mile

  1. King Kreesa – fast and consistent (last 4 races, 2 wins, second, and a fourth), has gone the distance plenty of times, back on top
  2. Grand Arch – fast, last win was 4stardave, working out well
  3. The Pizza Man – never underestimate the pizza man again, coming off 3 straight wins, 2 for 2 at distance, Florent Geroux knows this horse
  4. Just Missed – Seek Again

There you have it, some great races for this Saturday.  Have a great weekend everyone!
