Louisiana Derby, Saturday March 26th

Temper Mint Patty

Well, we did pretty good on our picks last week, so let’s see if we can keep the run going this week.  Six races on the day, all from the Fair Grounds racetrack.  The Derby prep race for this week is the Louisiana Derby, our 5th race this week.  Since there are no races with under 8 entries, this could be an interesting week for picks.  Let’s get to it!

Race 1: Crescent City Derby

  • Mageez – likes to hit the board, 8 2-4-1 lifetime, Fair Grounds specialist 4 1-3-0, coming off a win
  • Sea Vow – 3 wins in a row before a 3rd last time out, good speed, (3rd to Icy Gentleman last race)
  • Icy Gentleman – winner of last 2, both with Jockey Guzman, good speed, working well

Race 2: New Orleans Handicap

  • International Star – lots of wins, except for a couple recent 4th places, has some good speed, and a win over Eagle, working out OK
  • Majestic Harbor – Coming off a fast 1 1/8 win at Fair Grounds, has gone the distance 8 times (only 1 win though), high % jockey, (previous win before last was April 2015)
  • Eagle – 3 wins, 2 seconds in last 5 starts, fast 103 beyer in the Mineshaft, lost to both International Star and Majestic Harbor, should hit board, not sure if he can beat International or majestic

Race 3: Muniz Memorial handicap

  • Chocolate Ride – only blip on the resume was that 8th place in the Turf Classic last May, 6 wins last 2 years, high percentage jockey and trainer,
  • World Approval – 3 wins in 5 starts at distance, coming off a win, I like Leparoux on the turf
  • Roman Approval – lost twice to Chocolate ride, string of 3 second place finishes, has gone the distance

Race 4: Fair Grounds Oaks

  • Land Over Sea – 3 0-2-0 at distance, but gets talented Johnny V on top for this ride, fast speed, perennial second place finisher, hope she gets first today
  • Midnight On Oconee – fast, coming off 2 second place finishes, 3 1-2-0 at Fair Grounds, hot trainer
  • Stageplay – 1 win at Fair Grounds, talented jockey, knows the distance, knows the track
  • Just Missed – Adore, winner of last 2 races, 1 at distance, (moving up in class)..

Race 5: Louisiana Derby

  • Gun Runner – fast, winner of 3 of 4 lifetime, talented jockey, working out well, 1 for 1 at Fair Grounds
  • Mo Tom – fast horse, working out reasonably well, good jockey and trainer combo, 2 1-0-1 at Fair Grounds, I am a fan of the Uncle Mo stock
  • Greenpointcrusader – don’t think he quite has the speed to be there with Gun Runner and Mo Tom, hasn’t raced in a while, but beyers show he can compete

Race 6: Crescent City Oaks

  • Jet Black Magic – has gone the distance, winner of last race, has hit the board in every lifetime race
  • Calamity Jane – winner of last 2 at Fair Grounds, talented jockey and trainer, looks like new trainer has done him well
  • Sunny Oak – winner of 2 of last 3, all races at Fair Grounds, high percentage trainer, don’t be scared of moving up in class

There you have it, a late (Saturday Morning) look at the pick 6 for this Saturday.  Enjoy the races from Dubai this morning, and good luck to all betting today.
