Pennsylvania Derby, Saturday September 19th

Shankapotamus

Well, I busy week of travel has me posting a last minute pick 6 report. I’ll try and keep it short and sweet. Last week sure was exciting with the races moved to Monday. So exciting in fact, that this Pick 6 Challenge admin forgot to make his picks last week, dropping from second place to fifth and pretty much out of the competition. Good luck to those playing the challenge this summer, on to the picks.

Race 1: The Commonwealth Cup

  1. Mr. Speaker – going with a good trainer, good jockey, nice speed figs, graded stakes experience, won 2 races ago
  2. Up With the Birds – stakes experience, 4 2-1-0 record at distance, 4th in the Arlington Millions isn’t too shabby
  3. Legendary – some fast speed figs, good trainer, 2 1-1-0 at distance

Race 2: Noble Damsel

  1. Coffee Clique – I like this horse, disappointed in the Balston Spa, 9 4-2-2 at distance, I think she will bounce back
  2. Lady Lara – Some fast speed figs, training pretty good, hope that Mott has this horse figured out
  3. Recepta – consistent racer, 3 2-0-1 at distance, coming off a win
  4. Just Missed – Marbre Rose

Race 3: Cotillion Stakes

  1. Embellish the Lace – your Alabama winner, Javier on top, high speed figs, working bullets, could be best bet of the day
  2. I’m a Chatterbox – second in the Alabama, 5 3-0-1 at distance, if anyone can compete with Embellis the Lace, maybe it is her
  3. Eskenformoney – Pletcher and Johnny V combo, second last race, good workout, might be asking a lot to win
  4. Just Missed – Take Charge Brandi, I don’t like that her best races were last year, not running well in 2015

Race 4: Commonwealth Derby

  1. Force the Pass – class of the field, good jockey, trainer, G1 winner, 7 4-2-1 lifetime
  2. Go Around – Mott trained, 5 2-0-3 lifetime record, curious if he will like the distance
  3. Fundamental – 2/2 at distance 2/4 on turf, he likes the distance, good luck, Force the Pass is the play here

Race 5: Ladies Marathon Stakes

  1. Honey Lake – fast, coming off a win, 3 1-1-0 at distance
  2. Dido – four second place finishes on the Motion mare, hope that Graham can get that W, worked a bullet
  3. Maria Maria – talented Leparoux on top, 4 3rd place finishes this year, maybe Leparoux can get her on top

Race 6: The Pennsylvania Derby

  1. Made from Lucky – I put him ahead of Frosted because he is more rested, having last raced Aug 1st.  4 3-0-0 at distance, coming off a win in the WVirg derby, Pletcher Johnny V combo.
  2. Frosted – working bullets, great horse, see if he can bounce back from going all out against Pharoah in the Travers
  3. Gimme Da Lute – has been racing 7 furlongs, interested  to see what he does at a longer distance, has won at distance once, coming off 4 wins in a row, 9 6-1-2 lifetime record.

So there you have it, happy Saturday everyone, happy weekend, have a good day.
