Well last week we managed to go 6 for 6, but admittedly it was a bit of a chalky day. This week the stakes pickings are a little smaller with smaller fields. We were still able to get out there and find 6 races for you at various tracks. So let’s get to it.
Race 1: The Coaltown Handicap
- Diamond Oops – has the big speed numbers, nice stakes resume, dropping in class, so probably should be able to handle the field
- Math Wizard – nice stakes resume, dropping in class, hot trainer, working bullets
- Noble Drama – back to successful 1 mile distance 3/4 wins, coming off a second place finish, reasonable workouts
Race 2: Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1)
- Ollie’s Candy – has the speed, can go the distance (hit the board with 2 wins in 4 starts), nice stakes resume, coming off 2nd
- Point of Honor – seems to finish in the money consistently, nice jockey/trainer win percentages, back to Castellano
- Golden Award – working well, good speed, proven winner, should be around for the finish
Race 3: Alcatraz Stakes
- Kanderel – Turf racer, high percentage jockey, has gone the distance, working out well
- Governance – coming of a win at Golden Gate, turf winner, 7 races at distance, working well
- Indian Peak – dropping in distance, winner at Golden Gate, working well, win and 2 seconds at distance
- Just Missed – Bettor Trip Nick – hot jockey / trainer combo, working out well, stretching distance, and never been on turf
Race 4: Louisville Stakes (G3)
- Arklow – highest speed at distance, high percentage trainer, winner of 2/7 at distance, disappointing BCTurf and Pegasus?
- Tiz a Slam – winner at distance and at track, 4/9 wins at distance, hasn’t raced yet this year, we’ll see
- Admission Office – fastest of the rest, high percentage trainer, has gone the distance, turf runner
Race 5: Thor’s Echo Handicap
- Desert Law – has the edge in speed and jockey win percentage, hasn’t raced in almost a year, 4 wins 3 seconds in 9 starts at distance
- Tiger Dad – 2nd in May, working well, has Santa Anita experience
- Oliver – returns to 6f, speed was there last year, can make a comeback?
Race 6: Angels Flight Stakes
- Been Studying Her – has speed, coming off a 3rd place, high jockey win percentage, tossed between Hollendorfer and Ward π
- Gingham – high percentage jockey and trainer, dropping in distance, stakes resume last year, is she ready?
- High On Gin – hit the board twice in 2020, uninspiring?
- Just Missed – Praise and Honor – 1 start win, good pedigree, will be interesting to watch
So there it is, some small fields, but should prove for some interesting races. Have a great weekend everyone.
