We’ve got six Graded Stakes races this weekend from Belmont, Churchill, and Gulfstream Park. Small fields, and low odds, but maybe we’ll see some exciting racing? Let’s have a look at the fields.
Race 1: John A. Nerud Stakes (G2)
- Speaker’s Corner – Giving him the edge here since 3/3 at distance and 2/3 at Belmont. Good speed figs, working bullets, returning to 7F.
- Life is Good – The other class of the field, high speed figs, high percentage jockey, winner of 6/8 lifetime, rail post. I don’t think you can single this race.
- Repo Rocks – Only other horse to be in the 100+ beyers, returning to dirt, no wins at distance, dropping distance, stakes experience.
Race 2: Smile Sprint Invitational (G3)
- Drain the Clock – Bad race in Dubai, but winner at Gulfstream and winner at distance, high speed figs, working bullets and working out well.
- Willy Boi – Winner of last 2, winner of 4/7 at Gulfstream and at distance, good workout, good speed figs, high percentage trainer.
- Absolute Grit – Posted a 98 last race, winner last race, winner at Gulfstream and at distance, high percentage trainer, winner of 4 of last 5.
Race 3: Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2)
- Shedaresthedevil – Tough one here, but going with track record 6 5-1-0 and distance 3 1-0-1. Lost to Pauline’s Pearl last time out, high percentage trainer, good speed figs, working well.
- Super Quick – Winner last race, highest speed fig, working out well, win at distance, dropping distance, wins at Churchill, even regressing from ridiculous 106 could have enough to win this race.
- Pauline’s Pearl – Beaten last race, but good speed figs before that, high percentage jockey, adding distance.
Race 4: Dwyer Stakes (G3)
- Charge It – Winner at distance, dropping in class, dropping in distance, high speed figs, working bullets, rail post, should do fine.
- Nabokov – Winner last race, good speed, winner at Belmont, dropping distance, working out well, high percentage jockey / trainer.
- Fluid Situation – Posted a 98 2 races ago, working out well, high percentage trainer, tough to compete with Charge It and Nabokov though.
Race 5: Princes Rooney Invitational (G2)
- Ce Ce – Dropping in class, working out well, winner at track and distance, high speed figs, should do well.
- Glass Ceiling – One of the only others with triple digit beyers, winner 4 of last 5, winner at track, winner at distance, working bullets.
- Spirit Wind – Winner of last 3, good speed figs, high percentage trainer, working out well, could take the lead and hang on.
Race 6: Stephen Foster Stakes (G2)
- Olympiad – Winner of last 4 and 5 of last 6, winner at distance and track, high speed figs, high percentage trainer and jockey, all signs point to yes.
- Mandaloun – Good speed figs, looking to bounce back after Saudi Cup, high percentage trainer, winner at distance and track, working well.
- Americanrevolution =- Aptly named, Pletcher trainer, high percentage jockey, high speed figs, working well, hoping for an improvement at distance and long odds.
There you have it, lots of good races this weekend. Let’s hope for some upsets.
Think you can pick better than me, then try.
