Jockey Club Gold Cup, September 27th

Welcome back to the Pick 6 Challenge! The Summer Spectacular segment started several weeks ago, and is wrapping up this weekend. But, that certainly does not mean it is too late to join. This racing segment started on July 19th, with the opening weekend at Saratoga (featuring the Diana). The segment will finish September 27th at Belmont with the Jockey Club Gold Cup. If you are new to the game, the rules are simple. You get 15 picks to spread across 6 races. The objective is to pick the most race winners using the fewest picks. The scoring is most correct picks, followed by number of picks used, followed by winnings. The Summer Spectacular will feature many races from Saratoga and Del Mar.

The last racing weekend of the segment is upon us, and we are going to go ahead and feature six races from Belmont Park. Good Luck everyone, there is still a mathematical chance of catching Piolo, but it seems doubtful.

Race 1: The Kelso Handicap.
Race 1 is the Kelso Handicap, an earlier start than normal, at 2:27pm, so keep sharp folks.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Capo was lucky when we saw him win at Saratoga a few years ago, I just don’t think he will win today.  Golden Ticket gets Rosario on top today which is good, but the horse has a poor stakes record, I could see him in third today.  Vyjack was showing improvement at the 6/7 furlong range, I think going back to a mile is a mistake.  River Rocks is coming off three wins, but moves up in class today. Bradester will challenge Itsmyluckyday today, should be a good fight. I don’t see Scarly Charly doing anything.  Itsmyluckyday will start on the outside, but seems like a good bet to win, the morning line odds support that assumption.

Race 2: The Beldame.
Race 2 is the Beldame, another 7 horse field. This race has some interesting horses in it, so don’t go handing it to Stopcharginmaria.  Endless Chatter comes off three wins, and looks like she will be competitive. Stopcharginmaria scratched out of her last start, but she is 3/3 at distance, and a darn good horse. I can’;t figure out Stanwyck, seems to show up but hasn’t won in almost a year, use in exotics. Fiftyshadesofhay should finish close to the front as well, looks good on paper. Belle Gallantey was disappointing in the Personal Ensign but great prior to that, she should prove stiff competition for Stopcharging.

Race 3: The Flower Bowl Invitational.
Third race is the Flower Bowl Invitational. Abaco comes off a win, has consistent speed figures, and has been working bullets. Watch out for Viva Rafaela with Javier on top, and Strathnaver with Rosario, hot jockeys on competitive horses, although Strathnaver keeps failing to win when featured in the Pick 6 Challenge. Watsdachances has raced with many of these horses before, can she figure out her way through? Cornelio loves the Kitten horses, and the Ramseys have thrown Stephanie’s Kitten into this one. Her speed figures are declining, can she turn it around today?

Race 4: The Vosburgh Invitational.
The fourth race is the Vosburgh. Eight horses in this one.  Palace was great at Saratoga, and should continue to do well at Belmont. Coupe de Grace seems to have regressed a bit.  Salutos Amigos has finished behind Palace before, and will be a good bet to win if Palace falters. Happy My way was second to Palace in the Vanderbilt, and has won 4 out of his last 6, Bravo has been hot at Belmont lately, so keep an eye out. Private Zone is looking to return to the form he had in 2013 and 2012 where he was leading the field to the finish, we’ll see what he has today.

Race 5: The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.
The Joe Hirsch drew a small field, but its a competitive one.  Cornelio may just bet all 5 entries in this one.  Hard not to throw one on the coupled entry of Big Blue Kitten and Real Solution, both Ramsey’s entries. Twilight Eclipse has finished second to Main Sequence in his last to races. Imagining looks fast, has some bullet workouts, and gets Rosario on top. Rajiv has taken Main Sequence to two straight wins, and will be a heavy betting favorite in this race as well.  Good Luck.

Race 6: The Jockey Club Gold Cup.
The last race of the day features our biggest field of the day. Moreno looks to battle again with V.E. Day, Zivo, Wicked Strong, and Tonalist.  All those horses will be pretty competitive in this race.  Micromanage gets a high percentage inside post, the Pletcher trained Repole horse could be in line for a big upset.  I’ll toss a win on him. The outside posts will be tough to win from today.  Keep an eye on the track preferences today, if the speed holds put your bets on Moreno.  This will be a great race, and a beautiful day in NY, wish I was there.

Good luck everyone, thanks for playing.  We’ll see about setting something up for the Breeders Cup.
