Preakness Stakes, May 16th

Kensei

Well last week must have been quite chalky, as we had 4 people get all six correct, no Mr. Moneybags last week. Thanks to everyone who is playing this segment of the Pick 6 Challenge. The 2015 triple Crown Challenge will cover races from May 2nd Kentucky Derby to the Santa Anita Gold Cup June 27th. After a quite week last week, we are on to Pimlico for the Preakness.

Just a reminder… What’s up with the Past Performances links? Well, it seems like Brisnet is blocking some external links to the past performances. I’ve seen a few other blogs that have stopped linking directly to the past performances as well. This leaves me with two options: Provide a link to a trainer page that does have access to the Brisnet link, or provide a link to the Equibase “entries” page that has all the horses entered – and more. My preference is usually to link to the trainer page. But that’s what is up with the past performance links.

I’m going to try and keep it brief this week, so here goes… All 6 races are from Pimlico this week.

Race 1: The Sir Barton.
Fame and Power looks like a good bet, rail is winning, working bullets, a first and a third this year.  Donworth has only 2 lifetime races, one a win, the other second in the Lexington, Bold Conquest was on the derby trail, and has a string of 5 graded stakes races to his resume, he’s got the experience.

Race 2: The Gallorette.
Hard Not to Like, is well, hard Not to Like with Johnny V on top, and look at those stakes races she’s been in.  Watsdachances has got some speed, but hasn’t won since 2013.  If you know Cornelio, you know he’s a softy for the cat horses, so Emmotional Kitten, and maybe Cat’s Claw can get things righted.

Race 3: The Chick Lang.
Blame Jim did great last time, in an Allowance, what’s he got today?  Same for Victory is Sweet, beating up on the maidens, how will he handle this class?  Gimme Da Lute frops from his last start, a G3, so does he have the experience over these others?  We will see.

Race 4: The Very One.
Can Ageless find that winning style from 2013/2014?  Jewel of the Cat threw out a real clunker last time out, can she rebound? Shrinking Violet comes in on a high, Aquinnah is having a good 2015.

Race 5: The Dixie Stakes.
The Dixie Stakes has our largest field. Grand Tito could have some speed, Up with the Birds did not like Japan, I kinda like Long on Value here, Chamois was 3rd last year in this race, Lochte hasn’t done anything since winning the Tampa bay derby last year, Aripeka with Leparoux on the turf?

Race 6: The Preakness.
American Pharoah, Dortmund, and Firing Line are still your favorites here.  Divining Rod is rested coming into this.

Good Luck Everyone.
