Rebel Stakes, Saturday March 19th

Itsalittleharsh - Winner

Well, it’s been a busy week, so we will try and get a late, quick pick 6 in.  This week the Rebel Stakes from Oaklawn is our Derby Prep Race of the weekend.  There are a lot of entries, so it should be interesting.  Cornelio’s been in a bit of a rut the last couple weeks, so let’s see if we can turn that around today.

Race 1: Azeri Stakes

  • Untapable – seems to be the class of the field, highest speed figs, wins at distance, wins at Oaklawn, coming off a string of place / show
  • Call Pat – coming off Grade 3 win at Oaklawn at distance, experience at distance and Oaklawn
  • Streamline – 3 2-1-0 at distance, 2 1-1-0 at Oaklawn, not much stakes experience, but 10 6-1-2 lifetime second and 3 wins in last 4 races

Race 2: Spectacular Bid Stakes

  • Morning Fire – 3rd in the G# SFDavis, fast speed figs, might be better at shorter distance, will go to the front with Tiger Blood?
  • Tiger Blood – Undefeated in 2 starts, looks pretty fast, moving up in class, not sure of Leparoux on dirt
  • Epic Journey – working out well, on the board in all 4 lifetime starts, should have the pace

Race 3: Razorback Handicap

  • Carve – speed seems to be up and down, 4th last year in Razorback, knows Oaklawn park, knows the distance, talented Jockey / Trainer combo
  • Far Right – knows Oaklawn 5 3-2-0 at track, 2 ins at distance (including last race), never worse than second at Oaklawn
  • Upstart – a G1 caliber horse in this field, hasn’t won since fountain of youth last year, Jersey Joe Bravo on 3 mounts today, this is one, training well
  • Just Missed – Looks to Spare, part of coupled entry, huge win in Nov Clark Handicap, knows the distance, huge speed last time out, 3rd to Effinex and Hoppertunity

Race 4: Inside Information Stakes

  • Stonetastic – seems class of the field, accomplished sprinter, coming off a win, training well
  • Best Behavior – should improve with return to sprint distance, Johnny V on top, working bullets, lots of experience at Gulfstream park
  • Bar of Gold – coming off 3 second place finishes, good speed, working well, 3 1-2-0 at distance
  • Just Missed – You Bought Her, moving up in class, coming off a win, lots of experience at distance, could be there in the end

Race 5: Rebel Stakes

  • Suddenbreakingnews – keeps improving, last win at distance and at Oaklawn, could be your winner
  • Cupid – big speed last race, 1 for 1 at distance, working well, shipping from SA, we’ll see how Baffert does here
  • Creator – 4 1-3-0 at distance, won last time out at distance, at Oaklawn, major move up in class, hot jockey, hot trainer
  • Just Missed – American Dubai, 3rd twice at distance, lost to others in the field, might only be a third place horse today…

Race 6: Santa Margarita Stakes

  • Taris – Gary Stevens on top, winner of last 2, 3 1-1-1 at SA, lifetime 11 7-1-2 record, fast, good workout 5 March
  • Penwith – has experience at distance, Mike Smith, winner of last 2, working out well
  • Tara’s Tango – has the experience at Santa Anita, but never gone the race distance, won last race, talented jockey, good workouts as well

There you have it, lots of good racing today, good luck everyone.
