Fountain of Youth, Saturday February 29th

Connect Johnny V

Our Kentucky Derby contenders are hoping to turn back the clock 4 years during the Fountain of Youth stakes on February 29th, leap day! Welcome to the Week 2 race analysis.  Week 1 saw a couple long shots come in and some chalk as well, so a little bit for everyone out there.  Let’s see what Week 2 has to offer.  There are a ton of stakes races at Gulfstream this Saturday, ending with the Fountain of Youth.  I threw the Bernardini Stakes from Aqueduct in just to shake things up, but it was hard to chose which races to include with so many good ones going of at Gulfstream.  Here goes.

Race 1: Davona Dale Stakes (G2) – For 3 Year old Fillies

  • Tonalist’s Shape – undefeated, 4 wins in a row, includes graded stakes win, high percentage trainer
  • Spice Is Nice – huge win in maiden race, fast speed fig, hasn’t raced in 2020, Johnny V and Pletcher connection.  Will be heavily bet.
  • Bayerness – undefeated, 2 wins, a bit slower speed, moving up in class, working out well.

Race 2: Canadian Turf Stakes (G3) – For 4 year olds and up

  • Hay Dakota – fast win last time out, beat Sombeyay, High percentage jockey and trainer, lots of experience at distance
  • Sombeyay – Some fast speed figs, working out well
  • Gidu – Pletcher, Johnny V combo, raced well in G3 last time out, hasn’t raced since January

Race 3: Bernardini Stakes – For 4 year olds and up

  • Leitone – nice speed figs, recent finishes in the top 3, High percentage trainer, raced back to back weeks a month ago? hopeful for return to winners circle
  • Backsideofthemoon – second to Mr. Buff, consistent speed, Prado?  He’s still racing?  God bless.
  • Adventist – I can’t figure out why to pick him, but also why not to pick him.  Nothing jumps of the chart either way, may be the best of the rest today?
  • Of Note – Holy claiming spree on Armament!

Race 4: Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2) – For 4 year olds and up

  • Phat Man – winner over rivals last race at GP, fast, high percentage trainer
  • Zenden – Are you tired of the Pletcher Johnny V combo? Second to Phat Man, training well.
  • Bodexpress – the horse that lost his jockey in the Prekness, Triple Crown resume, working back up graded stakes resume
  • Just Missed – Haikal – has always placed, lightly raced (good and bad), could surprise?

Race 5: Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2) – For 4 year olds and up

  • Zulu Alpha – flying of the charts lately, coming off a win, working well, high percentage trainer
  • Sadler’s Joy – running fast, but where are the results?
  • A Thread of Blue – 3 wins at GP, can he get back to winning form of 2019?

Race 6: Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) – For 3 year olds

  • Chance It – wow fast,  4 wins and a second in 6 starts, high percentage trainer, moves up in class, tough outside post
  • As Seen On Tv – fast, working well, 4 2-2-0 similar stats to Chance It, can he beat him this time around?
  • Dennis’ Moment – awful luck in the Juvenile, working well, can he bounce back and the back to the winners circle?
  • Just Missed – Ete Indien – second in the Holy Bull, running well, training well, stuck on the outside will race to the rail with Chance It

The Fountain of Youth looks like a great race, and a great day to see some older legends like Sadler’s Joy.  Race Happy everyone, good luck.  Play the Pick 6 racing game at: http://games.scaredycatfilms.com/pick6/
