It is not a misprint, it is Jeff Ruby Steaks day, not Jeff Ruby Stakes day. There are two derby prep races on the calendar today, the Juff Ruby Steaks from Turfway Park, and the Rebel Stakes from Oaklawn Park. Here’s to hoping its not a chalky day.

Race 1: Azeri Stakes (G2)

• Lady Apple – has shown she can win at distance last 2 times out, fastest last time out, hot jockey trainer combo, undefeated at distance
• Serengeti Empress – seems to have the faster pace, but hasn’t shown in the results, working out well, 3rd in BC Distaff, hasn’t won since Oaks?
• Street Band – 3rd last time out to the two above, 4-0-2 in 7 races at distance, hot trainer

Race 2: Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3)

• Blamed – has raced in graded stakes most of career, hot jockey trainer combo, hot workout, won last race
• Wildwood’s Beauty – hits the board at a pretty good clip, bullet workout, 3-2-0 in last 5 at distance
• Nonna Madeline – could have the speed, hot jockey trainer combo, working bullets too

Race 3: Bourbonette Oaks Stakes

• Laura’s Light – won graded stakes, high jockey trainer combo, fast speed, best bet?
• Impeccable Style – coming down from G2 start, has some bullet works
• Oxum Power – undefeated, hot jockey and trainer, both wins at distance

Race 4: Rebel Stakes (G2)

• Nadal – undefeated, won G2 San Vincente, bullet workout, fast pace, hasn’t gone distance yet
• Silver Prospector – won G3 last time out, 2 wins at distance, high jockey trainer win percentages
• Basin – hasn’t raced this year gives me worry, but winner of G1 Hopeful, hoping he is ready
• Just Missed – Three Technique – I gave my last spot to Basin because this horse may only be a second place horse, hasn’t gone distance, beaten by Basin

Race 5: Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3)

• Invader – speed of the race, high jockey trainer win percentages, winner of last 2, both at Turfway
• Field Pass – next fastest, moving up in class, won last time out
• Myamanoi – improving pace, could be good value

Race 6: Beholder Miles Stakes (G1)

• Hard Not to Love – fastest dirt speed, winner of 5 of 6, Mike Smith at Santa Anita, graded stakes winner
• Ollie’s Candy – multiple graded stakes winner last year, will he be up to form for 2020? working out well, hot jockey, I like the graded stakes experience here
• Mother Mother – high jockey trainer win percentage, good workouts, has gone the distance
• Just Missed – Ce Ce – moving up in class, moving up in distance from last race, win percentages are there
