Here we are on what would have been Travers weekend, but that day has already passed with Tiz the Law romping down the course. Formula one is racing at Spa Belgium, but there is different horsepower for show at the Spa in Upstate New York. We’ve got 4 great stakes races from Saratoga and one each from Monmouth and Del Mar. Let’s get to it.

Race 1: Saranac Stakes (G3)

• Bodecream – has good turf speed, distance is about right, high percentage trainer/jockey, won 2/3 at distance
• Don Juan Kitten – has the pedigree for this race, winner of 2/4 at distance all on turf, won last race
• L’Imperator – Don’t rule out the shippers, winner of last 3, hit the board in all 4 starts, all on turf, winner of 1/2 at distance
• Just Missed – Vanzzy – won last race, high percentage jockey, stakes experience, has the speed to compete

Race 2: Eatontown Stakes (G3)

• Nay Lady Nay – high percentage trainer/jockey, coming off a rip roaring win, 2/2 wins at MOnmouth, 4/7 on turf, and 2/4 at distance
• Noor Sahara – Joe Bravo and Chad Brown on a shipper, on the turf, yes please, hasn’t won since May ’19
• Tapit Today – has the speed, high percentage trainer/jockey, winner of 2/3 at Monmouth, and 3/3 at distance
• Just Missed – Valiance – giving her the edge over Valdictorian, whose last win was the Eatontown in 2019

Race 3: Amsterdam Stakes (G2)

• Yaupon – crazy fast last race, winner of 2/2 at distance and 1/1 at Saratoga, high percentage jockey/trainer, should go straight to the front
• Long Weekend – working out well, winner of 3/4 at distance, should also go straight to the front, hasn’t fared well on East Coast?
• Basin – 2nd in Arkansas Derby, but returning to sprint distance, high percentage jockey/trainer, 1/1 at distance, working well
• Going for the Money – want to take a long shot with a payoff, go for Wondrwherecraigis

Race 4: Forego Stakes (G1)

• Complexity – High percentage jockey/trainer, winner at distance, couple big 100+ bayers, 1/1 at Saratoga, winner of last race
• Fortin Hill – taking a chance on a fantastic speed horse without stakes experience, hot jockey/trainer, winner of 3/4 and 4 3-1-0 overall, 1/1 at distance, no way he goes off at 6/1
• Mind Control – winner of 4/7 at distance, working out well, experienced jockey, winner of 2/3 at the Spa
• Just Missed – Whitmore – a capable challenger, just shied away because majority of races were 6f instead of 7f

Race 5: Sword Dancer Stakes (G1)

• Aquaphobia – having a great 2020 campaign, high percentage jockey/trainer, winner of last race, working bullets, hasn’t won at Spa, hasn’t raced there in years
• Cross Border – 5 2-2-0 in 2020, high percentage jockey/trainer, 5/5 at Saratoga
• Sadler’s Joy – 7 year old with 31 races under her belt, still racing well, DQ’d in Bowling Green, poor Saratoga record, poor workouts, maybe Channel Maker or Corelli might be better choices? Going off name and pedigree here I guess

Race 6: Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2)

• Flagstaff – hit the board in 11/13, has the speed, working well, 2/3 at distance, hasn’t raced since June though
• Giant Expectations – hasn’t raced since 2019, had the speed last year, high percentage jockey/trainer, 2nd in last year’s Pat O’Brien, returns to sprint distance
• C Z Rocket – winner of last 3, no stakes though, high percentage jockey/trainer 2/5 at distance, moving up in class for sure
