We made it to the Preakness. The second leg of the Triple Crown. Medina Spirit will go for the win along with 9 other challengers. All the races today are from Pimlico except the Louisville Stakes from Churchill Downs. Let’s get a look at the fields today.

Race 1: Gallorette Stakes (G3)

• Mean Mary – She had the speed last year, will she again this year? Quiet workouts, dropping back in distance, good turf record and record at distance.
• Feel Glorious – Looks to be close to winning speed, lots of experience at distance, hasn’t won in 2021 yet.
• Fighty Lady – Don’t leave out the overseas horses. Winner last time out at Aqueduct, at distance, lightly raced.

Race 2: Jim McKay Turf Sprint Stakes

• The Critical Way – High speed figs, dropping down from Graded stakes, lots of experience on turf and at distance, bullet workouts.
• Completed Pass – Winner last race, at distance, at Pimlico. Decent workouts, turf experience, moving up in class.
• Hollis – A step down in speed, dropping back in distance, winner last race, winner at Pimlico, has experience at distance, good Pedigree, soundly beaten in Shakertown though, not much else in this race though?

Race 3: The Maryland Sprint Stakes (G3)

• Breezy Gust – Beaten favorite last race, but the speed could be there, winner of 3 before that, dropping in distance, good record in 2021, would love to get 6-1 on this horse.
• Strike Power – Fastest speed, has some Graded Stakes experience, mixed bag beating some in the field, losing to others.
• Laki – Lots of experience at distance, winner last race at distance, at Pimlico, same jockey, nice speed figs, moving up in class, should handle it though.
• Just Missed – Yodel E. A. Who – 31% trainer on sprints, high speed figs, high trainer win percentage, dropping in distance and has experience at distance. Good field in this race.

Race 4: Dinner Party Stakes (G2)

• Sacred Life – Definitely seems to have the speed for this race, Graded Stakes experience, Chad Brown trained, experience on turf and distance.
• Talk Or Listen – 5 races in USA, can we still consider him a shipper? Trainer is 21% shipper, consistent speeds, results have been lacking though.
• Somelikeithotbrown – Disappointing in last 2 starts, trending down in the speed figs, workouts are good, talented jockey, 2nd place in Dinner Party in 2020. Could be hero or zero.

Race 5: Louisville Stakes (G3)

• Arklow – Has the speed, high percentage jockey / trainer, working out well, hasn’t raced this year, seems to come up way short in Breeders Cup Turf, can he win the big races? Winner last time out, has won at Pimlico.
• Crafty Daddy – Working out well, pair of 3rd places finishes in 2021, trending the right direction, winner at Pimlico, only raced distance once.
• Fantasioso – Showed some promise overseas, high speed fig last race, ok workouts, in a tough to read field I think Leparoux on the turf can surprise, is this race the one?

Race 6: Preakness Stakes (G1)

• Concert Tour – Skipped the derby, working out well, good speed figs, winner of 3 before losing Arkansas Derby as the favorite. Gets Mike Smith, horse racing loves controversy and Baffert winning with another horse brings it.
• Medina Spirit – might be hard to beat if he can get to the front again, the Kentucky Derby winner, never finished worse than first or second.
• Midnight Bourbon – will benefit from a smaller field, thought he had a good chance at the derby.
• Risk taker? France Go de Ina – Hasn’t raced USA, out of Will Take Charge, slow out of the gate in last start, should improve.
