Kind of a quiet week after the first 2 legs of the triple crown have concluded. We’ve got races from Santa Anita, Belmont and Churchill Downs for you this weekend. Let’s see what we’ve got.
Race 1: Santa Maria Stakes (G2)
- As Time Goes By – Graded Stakes winner last time out, second to Swiss Skydiver before that, never finished off the board, gets jockey Mike Smith, high percentage trainer, working out well.
- Ce Ce – Winner last race, moving up in class, has won at distance, graded stakes experience, working bullets.
Race 2: Seek Again Stakes
- Flavius – High percentage trainer, experience at longer distances, dropping in class, has the speed to win this race.
- Decorated Invader – High percentage trainer / jockey, decent workouts, experience at distance 6 3-1-1, can he return to form?
- Get Smokin – Hoping last race was a fluke, lots of experience at longer distances, dropping in class, decent workouts, lots of graded stakes experience.
Race 3: Churchill Downs Allowance
- Cazadero – 4/5 races at distance, with 1 win, second last race, high percentage jockey, dropping in class, winner of 2/2 at Churchill Downs.
- He’s in Charge – Coupled entry, winner of last race, at distance, at Churchill Downs, 4 2-1-0 at distance and lifetime, high percentage trainer.
- Privet Moon – Winner of last 2 races, and 2/3 lifetime, high percentage trainer/jockey, working out bullets, hasn’t raced in 2021 though.
- Just Missed – Bob’s Edge – Hit the board in all 6 starts, 5 of them at distance, only 1 of them winners though, winner at Churchill Downs. Tough field, should be an interesting race.
Race 4: Honeymoon Stakes (G3)
- Going Global – Winner of last 4 starts, 3 of them at Santa Anita, 1/1 at distance, shipped from Ireland.
- Madone – Winner last race, 2/2 at Santa Anita, winner of 4/5 lifetime, hasn’t raced distance though.
- Midnight Diva – Moving up in class, increasing speed figs, raced twice at distance, four times at the track, only 1 win though, by a nose, last race.
Race 5: Winning Colors Stakes (G3)
- Frank’s Rockette – Winner in more than half her races, only missed the board in BC Sprint, seems to have rebounded, high percentage jockey, has good speed, 7 4-2-0 at distance.
- Sconsin – Looks to have good speed, results haven’t been there though, working out bullets, not as much experience at distance.
- Bayerness – 2/2 winner at distance, winner last race, moving up in class though, 4 2-0-1 at Churchill Downs, working out well.
Race 6: Keertana Overnight Stakes
- Delta’s Kingdom – Second last race, hasn’t won in a long time, experience at distance, consistent high speed figs, high percentage jockey, graded stakes experience.
- Dalika – High percentage trainer, dropping in class today, experience racing against other horses in this race, 4 2-1-0 at Churchill Downs.
- Pass the Plate – Speed figs trending upward, graded stakes experience, dropping in class today, high percentage trainer, 3 1-0-1 at Churchill Downs, poor jockey win percentage.
Interesting week to handicap, one of the rare weeks where I couldn’t fill the card with all graded stakes races. See if you can pick better than I can at the Pick 6 Challenge.
