Belmont, Delaware Stakes, and a Return to Woodbine, July 10 2021

Bridge Loan Saratoga

We’ve got some more graded stakes races from Belmont and Delaware on the schedule this weekend, and a return to Woodbine! I haven’t scheduled a Woodbine race in a while, so it will be interesting to see how the horses do on the poly surface. A tight schedule for this weekend, with the first race going off at 3:15pm and the last 2 hours later at 5:15pm. Let’s have a look at the fields.

Race 1: Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3)

  • Micheline – Seems to have a bit more speed in the turf races, fastest speed, high percentage jockey, graded stakes experience.
  • Blame Debbie – Winner last race, has experience at longer distances (1.5miles), working well.
  • Dalika – Lost to Temple City Terror last time out, chased down in the stretch, has good speed figs and graded stakes experience at longer distances. Will avenge loss?

Race 2: Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1)

  • Cirona – Finished first or second in strong overseas graded stakes competition, we will see if she likes the Belmont turf.
  • Higher Truth – winner of last 2 races at distance and at Belmont, high percentage jockey and trainer, definitely moving up in class though.
  • Santa Barbara – Similar to Cirona, raced well against graded stakes competition, we will see if she likes the Belmont turf, surprised she is odds on favorite, no money to win here.
  • Just Missed – Con Lima – coming off 2 wins, rail post is high winning percentage position, high percentage jockey and trainer, good speed, too many good horses in this field.

Race 3: Selene Stakes (G3)

  • Gote Go – Winner at Woodbine, winner at distance, spent some time on turf now back to synthetic, high percentage trainer, working out well.
  • California Lily – Has won at Woodbine, good speed figs at Woodbine, high percentage jockey and trainer, has the most All Weather experience of field.
  • Our Flash Drive – High percentage jockey/trainer, working out well, ran really good in win at Woodbine last race, is it a fluke or not?

Race 4: Victory Ride Stakes (G3)

  • Australasia – Undefeated in 6 starts, winner at distance, high percentage jockey/trainer, high speed figs, working out well, seems like the one to beat.
  • Miss Brazil – Winner of 2 at distance, and 1/2 at Belmont, has hit the board in all 6 starts, high percentage jockey, working bullets.
  • Bella Sofia – Ran second last race and lost by 1 to Australasia, good speed figs, Belmont experience, good rail post position.

Race 5: Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (G1)

  • Bolshoi Ballet – Winner on turf at distance, I trust Aidan O’Brien knows what he is doing with this horse.
  • Hard Love – Winner of 2 at Belmont, winner of last 2 starts and 3/4 lifetime, high percentage trainer, moving up in class.
  • Du Jour – Winner of last 3, graded stakes winner, high percentage jockey/trainer, good speed in most recent start.

Race 6: Delaware Handicap (G2)

  • Bonny South – Finished first or second in 8/10 starts, experience at distance, graded stakes winner, fast speed, good workouts.
  • Dream Marie – Winner last race, graded stakes experience, winner at Delaware, high percentage jockey/trainer, working out well.
  • Queen Nekia – Has the Delaware track experience, winner of 5/10 at track, high percentage jockey, can she turn that experience into a win?

There you go, lots of graded stakes races for this weekend, and some neat races too. Really looking forward to the Belmont Oaks. Think you can pick better than me? Then try it. Good luck everyone.
