It is the end of the summer meets at Del Mar and Saratoga. It is also the last week of the Pick 6 Challenge, I sure am missing not seeing the Woodward this weekend. Let’s see what we’ve got today.

Race 1: Prioress Stakes (G2)

• Souper Sensational – Has lots of speed, dropping in distance, lots of stakes experience, working well, second and first last 2 races.
• Edie Meeny Miny Mo – Also a speed horse going to the lead, will battle Oxana, dropping in distance back to 6f, winner of 2 at distance, winner of 2/3 lifetime, both at 6f, working bullets.
• Oxana – Looks to have the early speed, benefit of rail post, working out well, has won at distance, high percentage jockey / trainer, winner of last 2.

Race 2: Saranac Stakes (G3)

• Never Surprised – Winner of 2 before second in Kittens Joy, high speed figs, hot jockey / trainer, working out well, win at distance.
• Public Sector – Coming off a win, first or second in last 4 races, 2 wins at Saratoga, win at distance, high percentage trainer.
• Founder – Solid speed at distance, moving up in class though, winner at distance, high percentage jockey / trainer.

Race 3: Flower Bowl Stakes (G1)

• War Like Goddess – Winner of last 3 and 5.6 lifetime, winner at Saratoga, winner of 2/2 at distance, highest speed fig, Leparoux on the turf.
• La Signare – High speed figures, stakes experience, coming off a long layoff, OK workouts.
• My Sister Nat – Ran second to War Like Goddess last race, consistent speed at distance, has gone the distance 3 times, but no wins, high percentage trainer.
• Just Missed – Great Island – Hasn’t gone the distance yet, but has placed well in shorter races, may be ready to step up, won last race and 4/7 lifetime.

Race 4: Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1)

• Happy Saver – Undefeated in 5 starts before 3rd in Suburban, may not have liked wet track, high percentage trainer, fast speed, strong workouts, winner at distance and at Saratoga.
• Forza Di Oro – Winner of last 3 and 4/6 lifetime, winner at Saratoga, good workouts, moving up in class.
• Max Player – Winner of the Suburban with high speed fig, high percentage trainer, but only 1 win in 5 tries at distance, and 3rd in only Saratoga start (Travers).

Race 5: John C. Mabee Stakes (G2)

• Maxim Rate – Strong speed figs, winner of 1/4 at distance, lots of experience at Del Mar, high percentage jockey / trainer, coming off a 3rd place finish.
• Dogtag – Coming of 3 straight second place finishes, stakes experience, high speed figs, 27% beaten favorite, working well.
• Going to Vegas – Winner last race, high percentage jockey, winner at distance, good turf speed, 6 1-2-2 record at Del Mar, return to graded stakes company.

Race 6: Del Mar Derby (G2)

• Hudson Ridge – Coming off a second place finish, high speed figures, high percentage trainer / jockey, first or second in last 4 races, 2/2 wins at distance, working out well.
• Sword of Zorro – DQ’d to 3rd last race, but first or second 6 of last 9, high percentage trainer / jockey, raced distance 1 time, beaten by Hudson Ridge several times.
• Zoffarelli – Picking a shipper on the turf, winner last race, winner at Del Mar, first or second in 7 of 8 races.
• Watch Out for Hockey Dad – Likes to go to the front, could be an advantage in a full field race, second last race, working well.

Looks like the final days of the Saratoga and Del Mar meets, I’ll miss summer racing.
