We’ve got 6 races from Parx Racing this week in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Derby will cap the day of racing. I wanted to try and work in some Belmont races, but they had some smaller fields and the early mile races looked interesting at Parx. Lets see what we’ve got for today.

Race 1: Parx Dirt Mile Stakes

• Silver Slate – Coming off a stretch of 6 wins before dropping to third against tough competition in the Whitney. Still posts high speed figures, dropping in class, dropping in distance, winner of 2/3 at distance, and working bullets. Looks like the pick of the race.
• Thorny Tale – Coming off 4 wins in last 5 races, lost other by a nose, high percentage trainer / jockey, winner of 5/7 at track, can he hang on while going to the front? Moving up in class for sure.
• West Will Power – Finished 2nd last two races with speed figs over 100. Dropping in class and distance, winner at 1m, only finished out of the money once in 8 starts.
• Just Missed – Mind Control is dropping in class, has high speed figs, coming off 4th in Forego, winner at distance. And Dreams Untold has won at distance and 9 4-2-1 at Parx, high percentage jockey and trainer. Looks like a good race.

Race 2: Greenwood Cup Stakes (G3)

• Moretti – Certainly has the most experience in the field, coming off poor turf start in Sword Dancer, hasn’t seen results this year, needs a win to salvage lost season, high percentage trainer.
• Math Wizard – Only 2 starts in 2021 and they were both poor ones, stretching out in distance, high percentage trainer, lots of stakes experience.
• Sheer Flattery – If you want a local with 9 6-1-1 at Parx and wins in 6 of last 8 races this year, this is your horse. High percentage jockey and trainer, winner of last 3 at Parx with good speed figs, hasn’t gone the distance.
• Just Missed – Magical Michael also a local horse with a 7 6-1-0 record at Parx, high percentage jockey and trainer, moving up in class.

Race 3: Turf Monster Stakes (G3)

• Caravel – With a 10 7-0-3 record this horse has finished first or third every race, 5/5 winner at distance, strong speed figs, finished third last race, grade 1, should perform well.
• Firecrow – Coming off a win in 5f prep last time out with a solid speed fig, winner at distance, working bullets, moves up in class.
• Carotari – Lots of experience at distance, solid 90s speed figs, returning to 5f distance, 17 races at distance with a 5-6-2 record. Working bullets.

Race 4: Gallant Bob Stakes (G2)

• Jackie’s Warrior – Highest speed figs, winner last 2 including Saratoga Jerkens, winner of 10 7-1-1 lifetime, working bullets, looks to be class of this field.
• Beren – Winner of 3/3 at distance, winner of 8 4-2-0 at Parx racing, high percentage trainer and jockey, winner last race, winner of 4 of last 5, moving up in class.
• Pickin’ Time – Winner of last race, winner of 2/3 at distance, has raced in Graded stakes in Haskell, Remsen, Nashua finished 4th or better, working out well.

Race 5: Cotillion Stakes (G1)

• Clairiere – Has won at distance, second last race in Alabama, lots of graded stakes experience, high speed figs, working bullets.
• Army Wife – Finished 3rd in Alabama behind Clairiere, winner at distance, winner of 3/5 in 2021.
• Private Mission – Winner of 3/4, moving up in distance and class, working out well, could make the jump to Graded Stakes winner?

Race 6: Pennsylvania Derby (G1)

• Hot Rod Charlie – Came up short in all 4 Grade 1 starts but will always be a factor, high speed figs, hasn’t raced in a while, will he be ready to go?
• Medina Spirit – Hasn’t finished off the board in 8 starts, winner last race (confidence booster), working bullets, strong Baffert / Velazquez entry.
• Midnight Bourbon – Huge Travers effort, dropping distance and a front runner, has gone distance 2 times, few wins to show for efforts.
• For the Upset – Speaker’s Corner – Improving speed figs, winner of 2/3 working bullets, Ortiz/Mott combo, could surprise?
