Last week looked like it was going to be tricky, but we had 3 teams get all 6 races picked correct. What will happen this week? We’ve got 5 races from Keeneland and the Joe Hirsch from Belmont. Four of these races are breeders Cup qualifiers. Let’s see what we’ve got today.
Race 1: Woodford Stakes (G2)
- Golden Pal – Winner of 3 of last 4, seems to not have liked the Euro trip, back in US, working bullets, 5 3-1-0 record at distance, high speed figs, winner at Keeneland, expecting a return to form.
- Extravagant Kid – Another horse returning from a bad run in Europe, lots of experience at distance, high speed figs, dropping back to familiar distance, not much success at Keeneland.
- Firecrow – Doesn’t have the stakes experience of others, experience at distance but only one win, only one start at Keeneland, decent speed figs in 2021 starts, working bullets, may have a chance.
Race 2: Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1)
- Gufo – Winner at 1 1/2 last 2 races, high speed figs, beaten other horses this race, has never finished out of the money, 2/2 at distance, 4 2-1-1 at Belmont, good workouts, stakes winner.
- Japan – Seems like there isn’t much to base this on since only recent start in Sword Dancer has been best race, high speed figs, experience at distance, ran second last race.
- Cross Border – Has good recent speed figs, but no wins at distance and no wins at Belmont, jockey is winning, knows horse, maybe closes gap on Gufo.
- Others – Arklow has low recent speed figs and hasn’t won since May, Channel Maker is having dismal 2021, Rock Emperor has finished behind Cross Border in last 2 races. Maybe this is Gufo’s to lose.
Race 3: Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2)
- Bell’s the One – Winner of 2 before loss to Sconsin, winner of 5/6 at distance, 6 2-1-2 at Keeneland, good speed, working bullets.
- Estilo Talentoso – Lots of graded stakes experience, high speed figs, dropping in distance, working bullets, should compete.
- Franks’ Rockette – Lots of experience at distance, dropping to familiar distance, working bullets, stakes experience.
- Long Odds – Inthemidstofbiz – Lots of experience at distance, winner at Keeneland, back to dirt, winner of 4 before loss on AW.
Race 4: First Lady Stakes (G1)
- Althiqa – Winner of last 2, high speed figs, 3 2-1-0 at distance, has never finished out of the money, hasn’t done much for 2 months.
- Princess Grace – Winner of last 4 and 6/7 lifetime, 3/3 at distance, working bullets.
- Harvey’s Lil Goil – Good speed figs, winner at Keeneland, dropping in distance, working bullets.
- Just Missed – Regal Glory – Winner of 3 of last 4, 9 5-2-0 at distance, good speed figs, moving up in class. Blowout?
Race 5: Breeders’ Futurity (G1)
- Double Thunder – Winner of 3/4 lifetime, working out well, graded stakes wins.
- Don’t Wait Up – High speed figs, winner last race, working bullets.
- Classic Causeway – Winner in only start, high speed, working out well.
- Great Escape – Winner in last start, good speed figs, working bullets.
- Rattle N Roll – Has won at distance, working out well, but poor speed figs in comparison.
Race 6: Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes (G1)
- Pixelate – Good speed figs, winner at distance, in the money last 4 starts, winner last race, working well.
- Order of Australia – Tough to leave out winner at Keeneland, at 1 mile, 100 beyer, Breeder’s Cup Mile, has been over seas, return to America a success?
- Somelikeithotbrown – Good speed figs, stakes experience, no wins at distance or Keeneland, coming off 2 seconds and a first, working well.
- Just Missed – Space Traveller – High speed figs, good numbers last starts in US, coming off a second place finish, experience at distance.
Some neat races and large fields this week. Think you can pick better? Try and beat me.
