We head to Tampa Bay this weekend for the Tampa Bay Derby and Oaks. Also picked up the Azeri Stakes and head out West for the San Luis Rey Stakes. As always, it should be an interesting day of races, and at the end of the day, a few horses will be closer to the Kentucky Derby. Let’s see what we have today.

Race 1: Hillsborough Stakes (G2)

• Bleecker Street – Undefeated in 4 starts, winner of 2 at Tampa Bay, high percentage trainer, working out well.
• Lady Speightspeare – Second last race to Bleecker St, high percentage jockey/trainer, hit the board in all 6 career starts, bullet workout.
• Rocky Sky – High percentage jockey/trainer, dropping in distance, past stakes winner, working bullets, hasn’t raced since last summer.

Race 2: Challenger Stakes (G3)

• Greatest Honour – Long awaited return to racing, was on the Derby trail last year, winner of 3/3 at distance, high percentage trainer, winner Holy Bull, Fountain of Youth.
• Dynamic One – Hasn’t raced since 7th at the Travers, high percentage jockey/trainer, 2nd in the Wood, won the Curlin, hasn’t won at distance.
• Cody’s Wish – Winner of last 3, improving speed figs, moving up in distance and class, working out well.
• Good Value – War Stopper – High percentage trainer, returning to longer distance, good historic speed figs, working out well, good value.

Race 3: Florida Oaks (G3)

• Spicer – Winner at distance, high percentage trainer, working out well, has beaten others in this field.
• Ambitieuse – High speed figs, high percentage jockey, hit the board in all three starts, most importantly has raced this distance before, but came up short.
• Mrs. Barbara – Switching back to turf from all weather, winner of last 2, competitive speeds figs, high percentage trainer, inside post.
• Just Missed – Alittlelovenadluck – Winner of 2 before second last race, working out well, has a shot sitting just off the lead, worry about increase in distance.

Race 4: Tampa Bay Derby (G2)

• Classic Causeway – Consistent high speed figs, high percentage jockey/trainer, winner last race, winner at distance, winner at track, working out well.
• Shipsational – Has shown good speed, second last race, working bullets, sloppy track wins.
• Major General – Winner of 2 career starts, winner at distance, high percentage trainer, working out well.

Race 5: Azeri Stakes (G2)

• Ce Ce – High speed figs, winner at track, winner at distance, working bullets, graded stakes winner, second last race.
• Shedaresthedevil – High speed figs, 7/10 wins at distance, has always hit the board at distance, working out well, high percentage jockey / trainer, poor showing in BC Distaff.
• Pauline’s Pearl – Has always hit the board at distance, 50% winner, winner at Oaklawn, winner last race, high percentage jockey, working out well.

Race 6: San Luis Rey Stakes (G3)

• Say the Word – High speed figs, Graded stakes experience, 6 3-2-1 at distance, high percentage jockey/trainer.
• Acclimate – High speed figs, has never won at distance, high percentage trainer, working out well.
• Award Winner – Tough to find anyone who hasn’t lost to others this race, consistent high speed figs, high percentage jockey, experience at the track, and in Graded stakes, needs to find a bit more speed to win though.
