Contested Saratoga

Oh to be at Saratoga this weekend, so many happy memories, jealous of those that are there. We’ve got 6 races from Saratoga today, and the Breeder’s Cup Qualifier Pat O’Brien Stakes from Del Mar to finish of the day. Let’s have a look at these fields.

Race 1: Forego Stakes (G1)

  • Jackie’s Warrior – All indications Jackie’s Warrior should kill it. Consistent 100+ Beyers, 5/5 at Saratoga, 3/4 at distance, winner of last 4 and 7 of last 8, high percentage jockey / trainer.
  • Cody’s Wish – Came up with 2 big wins in last 2 starts, winner of 5 of last 6, no wins at distance or Saratoga, high speed figs last 2, working out well.
  • Baby Yoda – Winner of 3 of last 4, 102 Beyer last race, winner of 3/3 at Saratoga, working bullets.

Race 2 – H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1)

  • Jack Christopher – Returning to successful sprint distance, high speed figs, high percentage trainer, working out well, winner at distance and Saratoga.
  • Conagher – Winner of 3 of last 4, speed at distance, winner of 2/2 at distance, no experience at Saratoga, working out well, shipping in from Churchill Downs.
  • Gunite – Can’t leave out Gun Runner offspring, winner at Saratoga and at distance, highest speed fig last race, high percentage trainer, winner of last 2.

Race 3: Personal Ensign Stakes (G1)

  • Clairiere – Winner of last 2 head to head matchups against field, winner at distance and Saratoga, high speed figs, high percentage jockey /trainer.
  • Malathaat – Second to Clairiere last 2 races, winner at distance and Saratoga, high speed figs in the 100’s, high percentage jockey / trainer, working bullets.
  • Letruska – Dare I give her a chance? What happened to this horse? Working bullets, coming off a layoff, maybe they corrected what was wrong, has wins at Saratoga and at distance, last year’s winner.

Race 4: Sword Dancer Stakes (G1)

  • Adhamo – Chased down Tribhuvan last race in the United Nations, 3,2,1 in last 3 Grade 1 starts, high percentage jockey / trainer, is this the end for Gufo?
  • Broome – I always tend to trust Aidan O’Brien, lots of experience at distance for this one, high speed figs, lots of turf and long distance experience.
  • Gufo – High speed figs, high percentage jockey, working out well, winner at Saratoga, winner of 3/5 at distance, beaten by Adhamo and Tribhuvan lately, but maybe a comeback at the Spa?

Race 5: Travers Stakes (G1)

  • Epicenter – There’s your Travers Winner, been on the radar since Derby Preps, high speed figs, high percentage trainer, winner in Jim Dandy prep, working well, highly bet, graveyard of champions?
  • Cyberknife – Winner 4/5 toss the Derby, high speed fig, working out well, high percentage jockey / trainer, afraid Epicenter might just wire the field.
  • Zandon – Never finished off the board, tough outside post, speed figs in the 100’s last 3 races, high percentage jockey /trainer.
  • Artorius – The kind of horse that likes to ruin your Travers day, I’ll put money on him just in case. Moving up in class, winner last 2, working well, high percentage jockey / trainer.

Race 6: Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2)

  • Speaker’s Corner – Should bounce back, high percentage jockey, high speed figs, winner of 3/4 at distance, working out well, distance is about right, shipped from Saratoga?
  • American Theorem – Winner of last 2 winner at Del Mar, high percentage jockey / trainer, high speed last race, winner at distance and Del Mar.
  • Laurel River – Moving up in class but coming off 2 wins and high speed fix, working out well, high percentage jockey / trainer.

Lots of great races today, I wish I was at the track. Good luck everyone. Try the Pick 6 Challenge.
