3 Breeder’s Cup Qualifiers from Woodbine, September 17, 2022

Cease

Week six of the Pick 6 Challenge brings us 3 Breeder’s Cup Qualifier races from Woodbine. We’re also hitting what they are calling Belmont at the Big A for 2 races, and Churchill Downs for the Iroquois Stakes. Every week there is always interesting racing, so things never get old. Let’s have a look at these fields and see if there is any value.

Race 1: Jockey Club Oaks Invitational Stakes (G3)

  • McKulick – Has consistent high speed figs, finished on the board in all 6 lifetime starts, winner of 2, working out well, high percentage jockey and trainer.
  • Tosakana Belle – Coming from Germany where she won at distance in her last race, graded stakes winner, winner of 3/5 lifetime.
  • Beside Herself – Winner last race, highest speed fig last race, working out well and talented jockey / trainer combo.

Race 2: Pattison Summer Stakes (G1)

  • Mysterious Night – Graded stakes winner, raced close to distance, finished on the board in all 5 starts.
  • Philip My Dear – Winner of 2 lifetime starts, high percentage jockey / trainer winner at track, has beaten several in this field.
  • Appraise – I don’t know, not much else to like in this field, hasn’t been beaten by Philip My Dear, raced at Saratoga in the Skidmore, maybe that experience helps.

Race 3: Iroquois Stakes (G3)

  • Echo Again – Highest speed figure in win last race, talented jockey /owner, hasn’t gone the route distance, but nobody has.
  • Damon’s Mound – Posted two 93 beyer figs in 2 career wins, winner at the track, hasn’t gone the route distance.
  • Jace’s Road – Also posted a 90 beyer in maiden start win, working out well, talented trainer / jockey combo, also hasn’t gone route distance.

Race 4:  Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1)

  • Modern Games – Has been doing well in Europe, winner of 2/3 at distance, winner of Breeder’s cup Juvenile last year, coming off a second place finish.
  • Ivar – Pretty good record at distance, winner of half races entered, winner of last race, less success in G1 races.
  • Finest Sound – I don’t know again, nobody standing out here, this horse has finished on the board in a lot of stakes races overseas at various distances, some longer than a mile. Second by a neck last race at distance, we will see what the Sheikh has here.

Race 5: Jockey Club Derby Invitational Stakes (G3)

  • Nation’s Pride – Bested Classic Causeway last race, high speed figs, grade 1 stakes winner.
  • Classic Causeway – High speed figs, third to Nation’s Pride last race, grade 1 stakes winner, winner of the Tampa Bay Derby, talent is there.
  • Ardakan – Has gone the race distance 3 times, albeit without much success, 3rd at distance last race though, might be tough to be the above two though.

Race 6: Natalma Stakes (G1)

  • Cairo Consort – Winner of last 2 races, good speed figs, working out well, hasn’t gone distance, moving up in class, has beaten many in this field though.
  • Adora – Second to Cairo Consort last race, good speed though, OK workouts, moving up in distance.
  • Wickenheiser – Was the favorite last race but beaten by Cairo Consort, high percentage trainer, hot jockey, winner at track, could come back?

Always interesting when we have some races in Canada. Good luck betting everyone.
