There are four Breeder’s Cup Qualifying races today, and we are going to four tracks, Aqueduct, Churchill Downs, and Santa Anita. I had to leave the Woodward Stakes off today, there were only 5 horses entered, and Life is Good looks much the best with M/L odds of 1/9. What do the rest of the races have for us? Let’s have a look.
Race 1: Miss Grillo Stakes (G2)
- Be Your Best – Winner of 2/2 at distance, high speed figs, working out well.
- Free Look – Winner at distance, high percentage trainer, good speed, good workouts, lost to Be Your Best in debut.
- Alluring Angel – Good speed figures, high percentage jockey, working out well, has not gone distance though.
Race 2: Ack Ack Stakes (G3)
- Speakers Corner – Solid 100 speed figs, winner of 2/3 at distance, working out well, hasn’t won since April, graded stakes winner.
- Fulsome – Consistent 90’s speed figs, winner of last 2, winner at distance, high percentage jockey and trainer, graded stakes winner.
- Untreated – Winner of 3/3 at distance, no wins this year, dropping in distance though.
Race 3: Belmont Turf Sprint (G3)
- Arzak – Highest speed fig last race, graded stakes experience, no wins at distance, high percentage jockey.
- Thin White Duke – Winner at track, winner last race, moving up in class.
- Greeley and Ben – Has a really good chance to go off as the favorite if this race is taken off the turf, 6f distance specialist, high speed figs.
Race 4: Lukas Classic Stakes (G2)
- Art Collector – Winner of 7/8at distance, winner last 2 races at distance, high speed figures, working bullets.
- Happy Saver – High speed figures, 4 2-2-0 at distance, 5 straight second place finishes, working well, consistent speed.
- Hot Rod Charlie – High speed figs, hasn’t won since February, working out well, could be a solid 3 horse battle.
Race 5: Champagne Stakes (G1)
- Gulfport – 4 2-2-0 lifetime, high speed figs, working out well, sire is Uncle Mo.
- Verifying – High speed fig in maiden win, high percentage jockey and trainer, working out well.
- Adiamo a Firenze – Winner of 2/2 on an off track, rail post gives opportunity to get the lead and wire the field.
Race 6: Awesome Again Stakes (G1)
- Royal Ship – Mike Smith on a horse with 100 Beyers and a 4 2-1-1 record at Santa Anita, winner at distance, working bullets, dropping distance.
- Country Grammer – Winner at track and winner at distance, will battle with Royal Ship for sure. Working out well, finishes of first or second in all 4 races this year.
- Express Train – 5 2-1-2 lifetime at distance, 11 4-4-2 at Santa Anita, high speed figs, but coming off a 4th place finish. Working out well but beaten by the two above recently.
Wow, a tougher day handicapping than I expected, good luck out there today.
