Final Big Breeder’s Cup Qualifier Day, Joe Hirsch, 5 Grade 1’s, October 8, 2022

Emcee Forego winner

It is another big weekend of racing with lots of Breeder’s Cup qualifying races scheduled. I’ve put 5 up to challenge you this weekend. The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic is not a Breeder’s Cup win and you’re in qualifier, but I still think it will be a great race so I added it to the card today. We visit Keeneland, Aqueduct and finish the day at Santa Anita with the Rodeo Drive and American Pharoah stakes races. Good luck everyone, this is the last race of the segment and the standings are tight!

Race 1: Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2)

  • Slammed – Winner of 2 of last 3, winner of 2/2 at distance, highest speed figure at distance, returning to 6f distance.
  • Palm Cottage – Two solid high 90 speed figs in the last 2 races, both wins at 6f, working out well, lacks stakes experience.
  • Carribean Caper – Winner of 5/6 lifetime, winner at track, winner at distance, speed figs in the 90’s, working bullets, lacks stakes experience.
  • Sconsin – If you want to take a shot on a horse that has graded stakes experience and hasn’t raced too well lately, could get good odds on Sconsin.

Race 2: Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1)

  • War Like Goddess – Winner of 4/4 at distance and 2 of last 3. Plenty of graded stakes experience, likely low odds.
  • Gufo – Another likely win contender, second last race by a nose, has an up and down history, winner of 4/7 at distance, high speed figs, can’t leave out.
  • Soldier Rising – High speed figs last 3 races, 5 1-3-1 record at distance, finished 3rd last race to Gufo, has more rest than others.

Race 3: Breeders’ Futurity (G1)

  • Forte – Can’t leave out the only horse to post a 101 speed fig, graded stakes winner of the Hopeful, working out well, winner 2/3 lifetime, talented jockey and trainer.
  • Loggins – Posted another high speed figure in only start and win. Working out well, talented jockey and trainer.
  • Instant Coffee – Winner in maiden race, working out well, good speed, may improve.
  • Lost Ark – Winner of first 2 race, stretched out to a mile in the second, winner of 5 and 7 lengths, may have been vs weaker fields.

Race 4: Coolmore Turf Mile Stakes (G1)

  • Casa Creed – Seems to be firing on all cylinders lately, consistent high speed figs, winner of last 2, well rested, 101 speed fig last race.
  • Santin – Winner last race, Arlington Million, high speed figs, winner of 2/2 at distance, winner at Keeneland, also coming off a layoff.
  • Ivar – Bumped start last race, came up to finish second, high speed figs, winner at track, wins at distance, working well, seems to be finishing the year well.
  • Somelikeithotbrown – Winner of last 2 races, wouldn’t surprise me if he just took the lead and never gave it up, love the odds of M/L 12-1.

Race 5: Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1)

  • Going to Vegas – Gets the edge for home track experience, 4 2-2-0 record at distance, 14 5-6-0 at Santa Anita, defending winner of last year’s race, hasn’t won since.
  • Family Way – High speed figs, 6 1-2-1 record at distance, graded stakes winner, working out well, not underestimating Mike Smith at Santa Anita.
  • Fluffy Socks – Highest speed last race, hasn’t raced distance or track, ran second in 4 of last 5.

Race 6: American Pharoah Stakes (G1)

  • Cave Rock – Who picked this race, really? High percentage jockey, high percentage trainer, winner of both starts with 100+ speed figs, working out well.
  • Hejazi – Only other horse with a 100+ speed fig, finished second as favorite in both starts, working bullets, not even close to route distance.
  • National Treasure – High percentage jockey / trainer, winner in debut race, won from the front.

There you have, it a full day of exciting races, good luck everyone.
